In the ancient times, Fáliro was the haven of Athens, when Pireas harbour was yet to be built. The geographical borders of the county were between today’s Délta Falírou and the marina of Floísvos.
Founder of Fáliro was the local hero Fáliros, grandson of the Athenian King Erechthéas. Fáliros was one of the Argonauts who took part in the Argonautical Expedition, with Iáson as their captain (1226-1225 BC). Fáliros, when he returned, he founded a colony in south Italy which he also named Fáliro.
