The word Sývota comes from the compound word “Sivosion”, which means “many islands area”. In other words, Sývota got its name from the many islands in the area (Ágios Nikólaos, small and large Mourteméno and Moúrtos).
In ancient times it was also called “Sývota”. During the Middle Ages until 1927 Sývota had the name “Vólia”, which was changed to “Moúrtos” (name of a mayor, who probably stayed there) until 1953, while later they were renamed Sývota again.
It was liberated from the Ottoman occupation in 1912.
Sývota is famous for the beautiful beaches and the idyllic landscapes that surround them, such as the French Pier, a little north of the port of Sývota and the beach Megáli Ámmos, one of the most popular sandy beaches of Sývota, organized.
