In antiquity, this entire coastal stretch belonged to the territory of the <strong>Ainianes<\/strong>, later passing under <strong>Thessalian<\/strong>, <strong>Macedonian<\/strong>, and finally <strong>Roman <\/strong>influence. Though Vathykelo itself does not feature in ancient texts as a harbour or settlement, its calm waters formed part of the maritime corridor that connected the vital port at <strong>Stylida <\/strong>with the eastern Greek mainland.
