The historian Thoukid\u00eddis and the geographer Str\u00e1von called it TRAGA\u00cdA \/ TRAGA\u00cdAI. It owes the name \u201cAgathon\u00edsi\u201d to its inhabitants, who are good (agath\u00f3s) people. During ancient years the island was inhabited by Dorians and later by Iones (there are building ruins dating from this period). The philosopher The\u00f3gitos the Tragai\u00f3tis, who was a student of Aristot\u00e9lis, was born here. Agathon\u00edsi was donated to the Mon\u00ed P\u00e1tmos at the end of the 13th century by the Byzantine emperor.
