From its foundation until the Fall of Constantinople (1453) V\u00f3nitsa was attacked by pirates.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>In 1070 AD <\/strong>the Venetians built a castle in V\u00f3nitsa and took control of its ports (it was one of the privileges given to them by the Byzantine emperor).<\/p>\n\n<p>A few years after the Fall of Constantinople, <strong>in 1472<\/strong>, V\u00f3nitsa fell into Ottoman hands and then constantly changed its &#8220;owners&#8221;, from Turks to Venetians and from Venetians to Turks.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>In the 16th century <\/strong>the Venetians with the help of the Greeks expelled the Ottomans from V\u00f3nitsa and held it until 1797, with the help of French forces that offered protection to the inhabitants of V\u00f3nitsa by the Ottomans. However, in 1800 the French lost control of V\u00f3nitsa, and the Ottomans became sovereign of the city again.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>In 1821<\/strong> V\u00f3nitsa was one of the first cities to revolt and was liberated in 1828.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>V\u00f3nitsa Castle:<\/strong> A very nice castle, built by Venetians.
