In other words, S\u00fdvota got its name from the many islands in the area (\u00c1gios Nik\u00f3laos, small and large Mourtem\u00e9no and Mo\u00fartos).<\/p>\n\n<p>In <strong>ancient times<\/strong> it was also called &#8220;S\u00fdvota&#8221;. During the Middle Ages until 1927 S\u00fdvota had the name &#8220;V\u00f3lia&#8221;, which was changed to &#8220;Mo\u00fartos&#8221; (name of a mayor, who probably stayed there) until 1953, while later they were renamed S\u00fdvota again.<\/p>\n\n<p>It was liberated from the Ottoman occupation in 1912.<\/p>\n\n<p>S\u00fdvota is famous for the <strong>beautiful beaches<\/strong> and the idyllic landscapes that surround them, such as the French Pier, a little north of the port of S\u00fdvota and the beach Meg\u00e1li \u00c1mmos, one of the most popular sandy beaches of S\u00fdvota, organized.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The word S\u00fdvota comes from the compound word \u201cSivosion\u201d, which means &#8220;many islands area&#8221;.
